Donald J. Trump, draft dodger and new President Elect, has now stated in interviews that he will be appointing Pro-Life justices to the Supreme Court, and that there is a possibility that Roe v. Wade could be overturned. If this happens, it will be up to the states to choose whether or not they will allow abortions. After being pressed in his 60 Minutes interview, he defended his decision by callously remarking that women may have to travel to another state to have the procedure done. This is merely an example of how unfit Trump is for the position of POTUS. His hateful rhetoric has shifted from an open display of bigotry toward minorities, Muslims, immigrants, and women into a more cunning, quiet invasion of our basic human rights.
Roe v. Wade was passed by a vote of 7-2 in 1973, under a Republican Nixon, and with 5 of the 7 justices having been appointed by Nixon, and Eisenhower, both Republicans. One may wonder where all of the animosity has come from in regards to modern-day Republicans, and their infatuation with controlling what women can, and cannot do. The answer lies in Religious Extremism in response to fabricated threats, and doses of daily fear being administered to the public. Both Liberals, and Conservatives have begun working their way from a balanced belief system, to one of extreme bias. Couple this with over 15 years of fear, and Anti-Islamic slander being pumped out by the major media networks and you have a recipe for individual rights crisis: an uneducated, misinformed, and manipulated public that is forced to retreat further into their core beliefs and fundamentals in an effort to distance themselves as much as they possibly can from the “enemy.” This leads to people making rash decisions, based on fear, due to the “implications” that their God places on them to be the most devout, blood-thirsty Zionist conquerors of all time. A quote from our president, Barack Obama has been circulating over the last few days, which states, “Religious freedom doesn’t mean that you can force everyone else to live by your beliefs.” While this wasn’t a quote from Obama, it is still a great statement that many Americans could stand to ponder. Religious extremism leads to fear, which leads to people blindly following those that pretend to support their cause, while our rights as individuals are stripped one by one, so that others may feel “safer” or like they live in a “Christian Nation.”
There are two possible outcomes to Trump’s justices reviewing Roe V. Wade, it will either overturned, or it won’t be. If it is overturned, the right to have an abortion, and the terms that they will allow will be left up to individual states. This presents a serious problem to women in the Southeastern U.S. specifically, as most, if not all states would either outlaw, or make it very difficult to get an abortion. Alabamaspecifically has already made it extremely difficult to get an abortion, and there are many restrictions on having an abortion, including not allowing insurance to pay for the procedure (with minor exceptions), forcing women to go through a 48 hour waiting period after receiving state approved,Pro Life counseling, and they must also have an ultrasound performed before being allowed to abort. There are only 6 centers available for abortion statewide, and the rate of abortion is only at about %10, so why all of the red tape, and humiliating procedures? This prime example of Church and State being hand in hand is exactly why we needed federal regulations regarding abortion to begin with. Otherwise, women may be forced to travel up to 3 or 4 states away, while covering expenses out of pocket, to get a procedure done that is CONSTITUTIONALLY allowed for them to have. Overturning Roe V. Wade would be a blatant disregard for the United States Constitution, and an example of how corrupt, and power hungry the modern Republican Party really is.
Donald Trump is merely trying to keep up appearances with his voters at this point. He can’t ban religions, build any walls, or distract everyone with his yells of, “durrrr emails, MAGA, I have the best words,” anymore. His voters are angry, and they demand that he stick to his word. This leads Trump to going after his primary prey, women. He is already a proven sexual deviant, and his lack of empathy and respect for women is palpable, with his decision to attack Roe V. Wade being confirmation that he is truly unfit to serve. The Donald’s speeches, and announcements must be carefully followed, and scrutinized with great dispatch. He can no longer use the hate-filled speeches that somehow elevated him to the highest office in the world, so he will be using a more subtle, and cleverly disguised attempts to strip us of our basic rights, and freedoms. We at Mentlegen implore that you keep an eye on the news, and follow what is happening for yourself. The fate of our country, and individual freedoms depend on you. Be the change you want to see in the world, and stand up to tyranny whenever it presents itself.
